This may hold true for ectothermic-aerobic ectothermic (EA) benthic microorganisms, but the effect on growth is not well established. We investigated the effects of high temperature on two EA microorganisms of the genus Isosphaera, which dominate phytodetrital biofilms in microbial mats of aquatic hot springs. We grew Isosphaera limi, isolated in the laboratory, and Isosphaera eurhimdysonii in growth medium at 60°C and determined cell size, cell number, growth rate, and the ratio of cell size to cell number. Compared to room temperature (20°C), we observed a 30% decrease in growth rate for I. limi and a 31% increase in growth rate for I. eurhimdysonii. The increase in I. eurhimdysonii is the first reported for an EA benthic microorganism grown aerobically at high temperature, although cell size of anaerobic species has been shown to increase at elevated temperature. High temperature was also associated with a significantly higher ratio of cell size to cell number. This shift in microbial structure may enhance surface area to volume ratios required for CO(2) fixation.Blog The Most Innovative Marketing Solution Is More Vibrant and Creative Marketing Together When it comes to marketing, it’s generally assumed that integrated marketing and branding platforms can be the most effective because everything is e2379e7a98
